Last month I had the privilege of being a model for an African designer based in Malmö, Sarah Nakiito. Sarah is a textile artist. She is interested in textiles from different parts of Africa. She feels that fashion is political and should be included in today’s industry, especially here in Sweden. She was inspired to make her own clothing line 9 years ago; after the birth of her daughter. She felt it was important for her daughter to have a connection with her Africans roots through textile.
The fashion show, which was in a big hall in Malmö called Moriskan. The show was a roaring success. The models were diversified and represented all races.
It was an honor to be asked to model for her.
In a new dynamic, that me and my fellow Africans want our designs to be included in the market.
People identify themselves through several different ways. That can be through dress, eat, talk and much more. Sarah feels connected to her origin/roots through textile.
I hope you will enjoy some pictures from the show.
